

This non-violent resistance against the Nazi-oppressors was the Ten Boom's way of living out their Christian faith.ĭuring 1943 and into 1944, there were usually 5-6 people illegally living in the Ten Boom home: some of whom were Jews and others members of the Dutch underground. By protecting these people, Casper and his daughters, Betsie and Corrie, risked their lives. A HIDING PLACE DURING THE SECOND WORLD WARĭuring the Second World War, the Ten Boom home became a refuge, a hiding place, for fugitives and those hunted by the Nazis. In the 1920s and '30s, the Ten Boom family took in many foster children, whose parents were doing missionary work. Their faith inspired them to serve the religious community and society at large. Through the years the Ten Booms were active in social work in Haarlem. The Ten Boom family were devoted Christians who dedicated their lives in service to God and their fellow man. The home was later passed down to Willem's son Casper, and then to Casper's daughter, Corrie. He lived with his family in the rooms above the shop. This is the proof of God’s long-suffering that UGM staff & volunteers showcase every day in every way that should encourage and motivate every believer in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit to never, ever give up the fight.In 1837, Willem ten Boom opened a watch shop in this house. Nonetheless, we are amazed and encouraged to witness the unending compassion of Jesus Christ in continuing to provide for the needs of those very people who falsely accuse Him of the enemy’s crimes. As urban missionaries in this calling, it is painful to experience the rejection of Christ’s message of graceful eternal salvation by many of those deceived into blaming God for what is actually the oppression of the enemy. Despite continual funding challenges, the Almighty Living God has never failed to honor this ministry, which is a showcase of His infinite compassion for those ruthlessly oppressed by the enemy of their souls. Corrie died in Orange, California on April 15, 1983. Corrie and her family were truly Heroes of the Faith. Over her lifetime she wrote many fine books, The hiding places is probably the best known. Bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.” Luke 6:27-28 tells us, ” But I tell you who hear me: love your enemies, do good to those who hate you. “Forgiveness is an act of the will, and the will can function regardless of the temperature of the heart.” One of her quotes gives us an insight into a heart that walks by faith and not by sight. Betsie also died in the camp, and Willem died shortly after the war, from complications received in the concentration camp.Ĭorrie was a woman of grace, love, compassion, and forgiveness. Two weeks after capture, Corrie’s father was dead. On February 28, 1944, Corrie and her family were arrested and taken to a concentration camp. We could lose our lives for that Jewish child.” Unseen by either of them, Corrie’s Father appeared in the doorway. She asked him if he would help hide a Jewish mother and child, to which he replied “No, definitely not. Corrie told a story of a Pastor who was visiting their home. But to the Ten Boom family, they were people that God loved and gave His Son for! Her family knew that with commitment comes sacrifice.Ĭorrie gives us a beautiful example of hearts filled with God’s graces. To Adolf Hitler, the Jewish people were something to be hated and to be exterminated. As the Nazis started to round up the Jews the Ten Boom family started helping and hiding as many as possible.


The Germans invaded Holland on May 10, 1940. Corrie and her family were members of the Dutch Reform Church. She worked in her father’s watchmakers shop, started by their grandfather. She had a brother Willem and two sisters Nollie and Betsie. She was the youngest child of Caspar and Cornelia Ten Boom. Corrie and her family was that shining example of sacrifice and love, a love that God places in the hearts of His people.Ĭorrie was born in Holland on April 15, 1892, in the Haarlem district. Corrie Ten Boom was truly a hero of the faith, during a time that saw the world going mad under the twisted cross of the Nazi SS.
